My brother is a very thoughtful guy, so this album features a concept/linernotes-pdf as an exception to the rule. Very arty stuff, but first of all characterized by an incredibly direct and heavy sound oscillating between punching beats and digital harsh noise making your ears bleed and you (me at least) scream for more.

This ep is about moments of crisis, the loss of control, the urge to retreat, and finally resigning to the circumstances. Musically the tracks are a lot straighter than those on the "3 Beauties Cut Up" (which was more an experiment in form) and of course much more emotional (to me at least). Although they all more or less focus on one topic they are products of very different times in my life. I tried to get them as equal sounding as possible, but maybe I failed...

Today Tokyo Trauma gets five years old. Time to indulge in reminiscence a little. The Technopanda in Steinhagen near Bielefeld actually was my bedroom, which of course was packed with instruments and other noisy devices. The "Melody Ram" and the "What's Left"- ep had been produced there. Every friday after rockoutfit rehearsal Thomas needed a place to stay and so we spent like every friday night together. We had a lot of fun and Tokyo Trauma slowly grew. When Rockoutfit's then-rehearsal-room had to be closed because of contamination, we extended my bedroom-studio with a recording and rehearsal facility and made it rockoutfit Clubheim. More fun. Well, those time are over now (sigh) since I moved to Berlin, but the Technopanda is still there waiting for me to come back from times to times, and Tokyo Trauma still grows. The tracks featured here never quite made it, but we like them too much or we had too much fun making them (I remember we almost pissed our pants laughing for lars recording the "Sleepy Child" vocals) to keep them back, even if some of them are unfinished in a way. I have to apologize in advance for the quality of some tracks (especially the older ones) though, a poorly mixed down wav-file was all I found in some cases.

Liveset I played in Berlin summer 2004 on the ooa-"Schlachtfest" (ooa.at). The owner of that bar switched off the power 4 or 5 times. It's sound is considered as digital metal so I can somehow understand him being disturbed (hehe) but you should crank it up. I especially recommend "will you carry my body" featuring Lars' vocals from the rockoutfit track.

Some clikky, rough techno-tracks trying to find out how far vocals can be bent.

Rockoutfit started as a band (formerly famous as 125, rue montmarte) but we soon found out that we wanted to merge songwriting as a band and producing in terms of electronic music so we spent two years in rehearsal rooms and my bedroom studio never playing live. We ended up having this great demo (it is!) but heavily struggling with the effects of neglecting the rock-side of the band, so we kind of split (I think the band is in sleep-mode as of now) and I moved to Berlin.

When Hendrik and I became friends I started to focus on digital sound again. We were first working on a liveset which then unfortunately left both of us unsatisfied so we started over and produced the constant ep.

During our recording sessions with rockoutfit Thomas one day ended up playing around with the piano-samples we had taken for "Disclaimer" and came up with this loop that later became "Speedstar". Though we were not thinking of maintaining What's Left at that time it just seemed to fit.

Angry boy using computers. I really was pissed off at that time, I don't know how you feel this tracks but I can assure you this is personal.

The first pieces of music Thomas and I did together, and the last vinyl release (of two overall) we could afford. I also found this remix of deckchair we made right afterwards.

This is where it all began. At some point somebody convinced me to make myself heard, so i spent a little fortune on pressing 100 records, sold them to my friends and I could tell everyone I had a label, haha. I still have some lying around somewhere.
Listening to it now it obviously is old, but still touching, especially "You're The Only One...", be patient.
